Top Thanksgiving Day Movies Are Family Favorites
After the turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie has been gobbled up on Thanksgiving day, many families settle in with a classic movie to end the day of thanks. From A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving to Planes, Trains and Automobiles, there is a great movie for everyone to enjoy once the Thanksgiving table has been cleared.
Here are five movies that have been consistent favorites to watch on Thanksgiving Day.
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving The holidays aren't the same without Charlie Brown in this 1973 cartoon. Charlie is preparing to go to his Grandmother’s house for Thanksgiving when Peppermint Patty invites herself and a bunch of other people over to Charlie Brown's house for turkey dinner. He then enlists Snoopy and Woodstock to cater it. They decide popcorn, toast, and jellybeans are a good dinner.
Planes, Trains & Automobiles This is a must see if you've never seen this classic Steve Martin movie from 1987. Neal Page (Steve Martin) wants to get home for Thanksgiving. His flight has been cancelled due to bad weather, so he decides on other means of transport. During his travels, Neal ends up in the company of Del Griffith (John Candy), who is never short of advice, conversation, and bad jokes. Trouble happens at every turn. This is a funny movie that ends up being touching despite the humor.
Dutch Volunteering to drive his girlfriend's (JoBeth Williams) son home for Thanksgiving to Chicago from his boarding school in Georgia, Dutch (Ed O’Neil) takes to the road with an unbearable twelve-year-old who doesn't like him in the least or that he is dating his mom. This 1991 movie isn't a prize winner but it's a fun holiday movie to watch.
Home for the Holidays Holly Hunter and Robert Downey, Jr star in a movie about a family who barely survive this Thanksgiving with their respective families, only to do it all over again next year. This 1995 movie is great for anyone who has ever dreaded spending Thanksgiving with their family.
Hannah and her Sisters Written and directed by Woody Allen, this 1986 comedy-drama film tells the stories of an extended family, told over two years that begin and end with a family Thanksgiving dinner. The movie stars Mia Farrow as Hannah, with Michael Caine as her husband, and Barbara Hershey and Dianne Wiest as her sisters.

I know this post is way past Thanksgiving, but I hold this holiday close to me because I was born on Thanksgiving and every 4 years my birthday lands on this holiday. That being said, watching Christmas Vacation (I know it's not the right holiday movie), on Thanksgiving, has been a tradition that me and my folks have shared for the past 10 years... The thing that reminds me of Thanksgiving in this movie is when the family is about to eat Christmas eve dinner and Clark cuts the turkey, makes me laugh every time! (the turkey is what reminds me of Thanksgiving ) |

| Planes, Trains & Automobiles is one of my favourite comedy movies of all time! I'm smiling just thinking about the scene where Steve Martin makes it back to the car hire desk at the airport..... |

| but I'll see Planes on the recommendation of those here. I do remember Steve Earle's redo of the Dave Dudley song "Six Days On The Road", which reportedly was used in the film... I still have the song on a 45 rpm single! |
