Is the hashtag over? Researchers reveal Super Bowl ads have abandoned them (and Facebook and Twitter) for URLs

It could be the end of the hashtag.
A new report has revealed that out of the total 66 ads that aired during Super Bowl LI, only 30 of them included a hashtag - while 41 percent displayed the firm's URL.
The shift was a new strategy for corporations to bring more traffic to their websites, rather than just gaining popularity on social media - with just five mentioning a Twitter handle, and four a Facebook page.

It makes sense to me that you would not spend millions of dollars to drive traffic to any other site than your own.

In Britain ,every other television commercial & even news reports have a hashtag for follow us on facebook or twitter. People trust the brand names of social media.Maybe the trend seen at the Super Bowl will cross the Atlantic?......

We'll see. Seems like you guys are the trend setters lately.

It's just that when someone says the phrase hashtag out loud, it has all the subtlety and class of a goose honking or someone receiving the Heimlich maneuver.

Oh yes! - we are the trend setters as per 'BREXIT' which apparently Americans link to explain the popularity of Donald Trump.Interestingly, tho just as President Trump is a devisive issue in the USA ; Brexit is extremely devisive in Britain. Both Scotland & London voted to stay in the EU.
